Vincent Cichowicz has been a faculty member at Northwestern University since 1959, and Professor of Trumpet since 1974. He began his musical career at age 17 in the Houston Symphony Orchestra. After a brief period of military service, he became a member of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra in 1952, and remained a member of the CSO for 23 years, playing under Rafael Kubelik, Fritz Reiner, Jean Martinon, and George Solti. He has also performed under such notable figures as Igor Stravinsky, Sir Thomas Beecham, Otto Klemperer, Leonard Bernstein, Claudio Abbado, and many others. Mr. Cichowicz has written numerous articles and arrangements,was a member of the steering committee responsible for the founding of ITG, and a former member of the advisory board of the Instrumentalist magazine. In 1995 he was appointed Music Director of the Millar Brass Ensemble, and in 1997 received a special achievement award from the European Chapter of ITG, as well as the Legends in Teaching Award from Northwestern University.
