The Richmond on the James Brass Band is made up of virtuoso brass and percussionists from Virginia. Many of the members perform with the Richmond Symphony, James River Brass, Richmond Symphonic Winds, Continentals Big Band, the Great American Music Ensemble, Washington Ballet and U.S. service bands. Many of the players are University of Richmond students, college professors and public school music teachers. This relatively new group, formed by Mark La Fratta and Mike Davison to perform at the 1999 ITG Conference, has a mission to present a highly diverse concert, filled with many musical genres, from tradition Brass Band literature, to American band literature and jazz. Tonights concert will feature two of the leading brass virtuosos in the world: Australias grand champion, Christina Stewart-Bowden, and one of Americas finest, Vincent DiMartino.
