Chris Gekker is the newly appointed Associate Professor of Trumpet at the School of Music at the University of Maryland. A native of Washington, D.C., he previously served on the faculties of the Juilliard School, the Manhattan School of Music, and Columbia University, and was a member of the world-renowned American Brass Quintet for 18 years. He has performed and recorded frequently with many groups, such as the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra, and the Chamber Music So-ciety of Lincoln Center. Mr. Gekkers recording of solos by Hovhaness won Best recording on an Independent Label from Billboard magazine in 1994. He has been a featured soloist at Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center, and throughout the U.S., Asia, and Europe. His Articulation Studies, now in their 3 rd printing, and 44 Duos, both published by Charles Colin Publishing, are in demand world-wide. (Sat., May 22, 1 p.m.)
