In the fall of 1999, James West will celebrate his 30 th year as a trumpet teacher. He began teaching trumpet at Arkansas Polytechnic College after his graduation from The American Con-servatory of Music. Mr. West went on to teach at the University of New Hampshire, Dartmouth College, and Louisiana State. He was conference chair for the ITG meeting in 1991, and is cur-rently state chairperson of the National Association of College Wind and Percussion Instructors in Louisiana. Mr. Wests performing credits include Principal Trumpet with the New Hampshire Symphony, the Vermont Symphony, the Portland Symphony, and the Baton Rouge Sym-phony. In addition, he has coached at the Tanglewood Institute for many years. Mr. West is an avid performer on the AKAI Electric Valve Instrument, and now performs on the Steiner MIDI EVI.
