Gilbert Johnson has enjoyed a long and illustrious career as a performer and teacher. Schooled at the Julius Hart School of Music and the Curtis Institute, he was Principal trumpet witht the Philadelphia Orchestra from 1958-1975. His solo trumpet recordings with the Philadelphia Orchestra include the Haydn Concerto, Riisager Concertino, Hindemith Sonata and the Antiphonal Music of Gabrieli (with the Cleveland and Chicago Brass). A recipient of numerous awards, Mr. Johnson is presently teaching at the University of Miami School of Music, in Coral Gables, Florida. (Thurs., May 20, 2 p.m.) |
