February 7 - Evanston Symphony "Trumpet Spectacular", to be held at the
Pick-Staiger Concert Hall, Northwestern University, Evanston, IL (USA). The concert begins at 2:30 PM and features Principal Trumpet Don Cagen
in a performance of the Haydn Concerto for Trumpet, and other works including Altenburg's Concerto for Seven Trumpets and
Timpani, the Janacek Sinfonietta, and other works. Members of the trumpet section of the symphony include Don Cagen,
Chitaka Nishikiori, and Steve Woomert. Students from the Barbara Butler-Charlie Geyer studio will play the Altenburg, and join the Evanston Symphony on the Janacek. Three separate age groups compete for scholarships for attendance at the annual conference. March 22-28 - International Terem Crossover Competition, to be held in three rounds in St Petersburg, Russia. Preliminary tape screenings (round one) will begin after the application deadline, which was due on September 5, 2009 (postmark deadline). March 22 will be the opening ceremonies, round two will be held on March 23-25, conferences and master classes are scheduled for March 26, the third and final round of the competition for March 27, and the Award Ceremony and Gala Concert are set for March 28. A significant prize package is planned, and the jury will consist of luminaries throughout the European music community.
