Tax deductable contributions to the ITG Memorial Fund may be made in any amount. KARL KLETSCH MEMORIAL FUND

The Karl Kletsch Memorial Fund was established in 1980 and increased annually by Cita Widmann, daughter of Mr. Karl Kletsch (1884-1953). Kletsch was former principal trumpet of the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra and had been a star pupil at the Academie der Tonkuenste in Munich, Germany, where he graduated on trumpet, violin, and piano. He was one of the nucleus of musicians of the then newly founded Keim Orchestra in Munich just before 1910. The orchestra later evolved into the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra and was then led by such illustrious conductors as Heger, Furtwaengler, and others. By permission of the donor of the Karl Kletsch Memorial Fund, the interest generated by this endowment has been used to provide prize awards for the annual ITG Conference Performance Competitions -- the Solo, Jazz Improvisation, and Mock Orchestra Audition Competitions -- although the fund can be utilized for any worthy project. Mrs. Widmann is an active supporter of the ITG, and we thank her for her ongoing contributions.
DONALD P. BULLOCK MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP FUND

The Donald P. Bullock Memorial Scholarship Fund was established by the ITG Officers and Board of Directors in 1990 in memory of Donald Bullock (1936-1988), a Past President and former Secretary of the ITG. Bullock spent most of his professional years as professor of trumpet, and later as director of the School of Music at Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo. He was a founding member of the Western Brass Quintet. He is widely remembered for his impact as a teacher of university students and as a recognized scholar. He is also remembered for his musical and professional influence on colleagues and his exceptional leadership in the development of the ITG. The interest that accrues annually from this endowment is used in the annual ITG Conference Scholarship Competitions to provide scholarships for undergraduate-level college and university students to attend ITG conferences.
CLIFTON G. PLOG MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP FUND

The Clifton G. Plog Memorial Scholarship Fund was established in 1983 for high school students by the family and friends of Clifton Plog (1906-1983) to perpetuate the memory of this man who dedicated his life to the advancement of brass playing. Plog was a professional trombone player during the big band era and was the private teacher of over 600 brass students over a period of 45 years. He took a great interest in young brass players, and many of his students are presently members of professional orchestras and bands in the United States. Both of his sons are brass players, and his son, Tony, continues to actively serve the ITG. The interest that accrues annually from this endowment is used in the annual ITG Conference Scholarship Competitions to provide scholarships for high school students to attend ITG conferences.

THE SANDAY SANDBERG MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP FUND

The Sandy Sandberg Memorial Scholarship Fund was established in 1991 by the Officers and Board of Directors of the ITG and by friends of Sandy Sandberg (1916-1988) to remember this man who exerted exceptional leadership in the musical instrument manufacturing industry. In his career spanning four decades, Sandberg worked in artistic relations and product development for the Holton/LeBlanc Corp., the Getzen Company, and the C.G.Conn Company. As a musical liaison between leading performers of his time and the companies he worked for, his insight and integrity helped lead to significant improvements in the quality of production band instruments. The interest that accrues annually from this endowment is used in the annual ITG Conference Scholarship Competitions, specifically in the "Jazz" category, to provide scholarships for students to attend ITG conferences.
THE SCHILKE MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP FUND

The Schilke Memorial Scholarship Fund was established in 1983 by the family, friends, and ITG colleagues of Renold Schilke (1910-1982) to perpetuate the memory of this man who contributed significantly to the advancement of the trumpet profession through his lifetime. His memory will live through the work he began as a performer in the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, as a trumpet designer and manufacturer of Schilke products, and as a teacher. ITG honored Schilke at the 1979 ITG Conference at Arizona State University. An interview with Schilke by H.M. Lewis appeared in the May, 1980 ITG Newsletter and a tribute to his life of accomplishments and contributions appeared in the December, 1982 ITG Journal. The interest that accrues annually from this endowment is used in the annual ITG Conference Scholarship Competitions to provide scholarships for graduate-level college and university students to attend ITG conferences.
THE RICHARD B. LEHMAN SCHOLARSHIP FUND

The Richard B. Lehman Memorial Scholarship Fund was established in 1999 by the parents and friends of Richard Lehman (1958-1999) to remember an amazing trumpet artist who served for ten years as solo cornetist with the Marine Band in Washington DC. until his untimely death. A graduate of the Ohio State University and the University of Louisville and a member of ITG, he studied with Richard Burkhart and Leon Rapier before going on to become a member of the music faculty at Illinois State University where he stayed until his appointment to the Marine Band. The interest that accrues annually from this endowment is used in the annual ITG Conference Scholarship Competitions, specifically in the college undergraduate category, to provide scholarships for students to attend ITG conferences.
THE KEITH C. CLARK MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP FUND

The Keith C. Clark Memorial Scholarship Fund was established by the Clark family in 2004. Clarke served in the military, taught at Houghton College in New York, and continued to teach and perform in retirement. He was an avid member of the International Trumpet Guild and a frequent contributor to both the Journal and the former ITG Newsletter. Clark was a brilliant historian and scholar, and though he never kept his military service a secret, he hardly ever mentioned the fact that he was the Principal Bugler with The United States Army Band who sounded Taps at the Funeral of President John F. Kennedy. Clark had to stand at attention for three hours in the rain, and when the cue came to sound Taps, he’d just been temporarily deafened by the rifle volley that was fired right behind him. Clark began perfectly, only to crack the sixth note E in an otherwise perfect performance. Tom Sherlock, senior historian at Arlington Cemetery, later remarked how Sergeant Clark's flawed sounding of taps seemed entirely fitting. “It showed the tension that the nation felt. It's when a speech is well delivered and a voice cracks because it's an emotional time. It's what should happen. And it made it immortal.”
