Joseph Bowman, Reporter

Walking through the rooms filled with a wide variety of trumpets, mouthpieces, music, and accessories can be both exciting and challenging. As I navigated through, I thought to myself, “How can I ever see and try everything here?” But I was determined. So, armed with a shopping list, I set off.

With over sixty exhibitors from throughout the United States and Europe, there are companies selling everything a trumpeter could possibly need. So what was first on my list? Sheet music! As I look through the stacks of music, I spotted Vince DiMartino. I knew instantly that the vendor was in for a big sale, because we all know Vince loves his trumpet music! I resisted the temptation to slip my purchases in with his, and went on my way.

Next on my list were mouthpieces. The large music supply stores, and the custom mouthpiece makers were extremely helpful, and I left with exactly what I needed. I managed to avoid Doc Severinsen, because I knew that if he found out I had been mouthpiece shopping, I would be instantly cornered.

On the way, I stopped to play some new trumpets. The variety available was staggering, and I played some wonderful horns, from many different manufacturers. As I continued, I thought to myself how lucky we trumpet players are, to have these exhibitors available at the conference. Their knowledge and information are designed to help us on our musical journey. I will leave the 2004 exhibits with a lot of new purchases, a much lighter wallet, and many new friends.
