2003 Conference Reporters
Jim Bovinette teaches trumpet at Iowa State University. He is a graduate of the University of Illinois (DMA) and Southern Illinois University in Edwardsville (MM, BA). He has performed with the Des Moines Symphony and has performed extensively in Europe.
Sharon Boyer has just graduated from Kansas State University with a Bachelor of Music Education degree. At KSU she was a member of the Symphony Band, Brass Ensemble, Trumpet Ensemble, and Concert Band. She studied trumpet with Gary Mortenson.
Joseph Bowman is professor of trumpet at Mahidol University in Bangkok, Thailand. Bowman has received degrees from Arizona State University (DMA, MM) and the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music (BM). He serves ITG as the coordinator of the Youth Web Site.
Chris Chesky is Director of Education and Research for the Texas Center of Music and Medicine. He has a trumpet performance degree from the Berklee College of Music, and music education degrees from the University of North Texas (MME, PhD). He serves ITG as the editor of the Health and Awareness column and as a member of the Editorial Committee.
Gary Dobbins teaches instrumental music in the Richardson, Texas public schools and is a member of the Dallas Wind Symphony trumpet section. He freelances in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. He has held university teaching positions in Texas and Louisiana.
Kevin Eisensmith is the associate professor of trumpet at Indiana University of Pennsylvania, where he teaches trumpet and directs the IUP Jazz Ensemble and the Trumpet Ensemble. An active clinician and performer, he also serves as principal trumpet with the Johnstown Symphony.
Tom Erdmann is director of bands and professor of music at Elon University, North Carolina. He has earned degrees from the University of Illinois (DMA), Illinois State University (MM), and the State University of New York at Freedonia (BMP, BME).
Jeff Helgesen is a freelance trumpet player living in Champaign, Illinois whose playing credits include recording and touring with the Ray Charles Orchestra. His website can be found at http://www.shout.net/~jmh/
Alan Hood teaches at the University of Denvers Lamont School of Music. He plays in the faculty brass quintet-Aries, the Denver Brass, the Hot Tomatoes Swing Band, and has toured and recorded with the Phil Collins Big Band. Hood will serve ITG as host of the 2004 ITG Conference June 15-19.
John Irish is an assistant professor of music at Angelo State University,
San Angelo, Texas. He directs the trumpet studio there as well as maintains an active performance presence in brass quintet, orchestra, and jazz combo.He is also a frequent contributor to the ITG Journal.
Gary Mortenson is associate professor of music at Kansas State University where he teaches trumpet, brass methods, and directs the universitys trumpet and brass ensembles. He is now in his third year as ITGs publications editor.
James Olcott is Past President of the International Trumpet Guild, and has also served as Vice-President and Secretary. He is a professor of music at Miami University (OH), and is a composer, arranger, and publisher of music for trumpet ensemble. He performs as principal trumpet with the Cincinnati Ballet Orchestra.
Judith Saxton is assistant professor of trumpet at Wichita State University. She performs as principal trumpet with the Wichita Symphony Orchestra and Wichita Brass Quintet. She is a Bach clinician/artist, plays with Monarch Brass (IWBC), and presents master classes and recitals nationwide.
Karl Sievers is professor of trumpet at the School of Music at the University of Oklahoma, and is also principal trumpet in the Oklahoma City Philharmonic. Additionally, he is the moderator of "Trumpet Corner," which is a feature of the web site of Conn-Selmer, Inc., at "www.Selmer.com."
Joel Treybig is assistant professor of trumpet at the University of Southern Mississippi, where he teaches trumpet, directs the USM Trumpet Ensemble, and performs in faculty chamber ensembles. He performs frequently as a freelance performer, is an active recitalist, and performs regularly with the Southern Arts Brass Quintet.

Through their dedication, ITG members and trumpet enthusiasts worldwide who were not able to attend the 2003 ITG Conference in Fort Worth were able to read reports and view photos from the various performances, master classes, and seminars.
