Approximately 200 conference participants responded to an invitation by Manchester's famous Chetham's School of Music to a reception in the school's Barrister's Hall, held just prior to the evening's major concert in the Manchester Cathedral. The event, hosted by John Dickenson, chair of the brass division, included a tour of the library and building which date, along with the founding of the school itself, to 1563.
The Chetham Junior Trumpet Ensemble, under the direction of David Chatterton, performed an excellent rendition of the Canterbury Flourish by Gordon Jacob, which served as a prelude to a short welcome by Mr. Dickenson.
