ITG Youth Day

Impressions of Youth Day

Lottie Young, Youth Reporter
This conference has been the first ever with a specialised Youth Day – an event which I feel has been a roaring success. The youth day consisted of a variety of different events, three of which I managed to attend in person. During these sessions I met a number of other young trumpet players, all of whom were very friendly and seemed to be enjoying themselves enormously. It is important to remember, when considering events such as this, that these young trumpeters are the future and deserve the very best start in their playing careers. I particularly liked the hands-on approach which was used in both the opening session and the ensemble coaching. At the end of the coaching session we felt as if we’d really achieved something in that brief space of time – it is a very nice feeling to be able to perform a piece with others only an hour and a half after meeting them for the first time. All levels of ability were represented here and all were welcomed. Both of the competitions showcased a tremendous amount of young talent – I’m sure that some of these kids seen here will have their names in lights before long!

I think that the Youth Focus Day has been a huge success and should definitely be repeated at subsequent conferences – I certainly enjoyed myself and I’m sure that many of the other young players did too.
