Stephen L. Glover, the 2001 recipient of the International Trumpet Guild Award of Merit, has promoted the brass profession, and particularly the trumpet profession, for over 30 years. His work as a publisher has inspired thought among brass players and enthusiasts worldwide. Glover is well-known for his 22-year association with ITG, as well as for many publications by the Brass Press, a publishing company he founded in 1970.
Glovers work for ITG began in 1976 as founding editor of the International Trumpet Guild Journal. His vision for the journal and the ITG publications program with its associated indices, music and audio supplements and recent program books set a standard not only for ITG, but also for publications by other music organizations. Glover served as ITG Journal editor three times (1976-78, 89-90, 96-99). He also worked with the ITG Journal as printer and mailer (76-78), layout and design (76-80, 88-01), advertisements manager (82-83, 88-01) and indexer (91, 93, 95, 97, 99, 01). As the advertisements manager he has raised over $1,000,000 for ITG. In 1976, he designed the ITG logo that is now a registered trademark.
Glover designed and produced a number of early conference programs, membership brochures, ITG advertisements for other media and the blue and silver Gothenburg conference poster. He designed artwork for a number of ITG audio CDs and the recent ITG Journal 1976-1999 CD-ROM.
In February 1996, Michael Anderson and Glover proposed the establishment of the ITG web site. Commissioned by the ITG Board of Directors, Glover created the first site that was deployed in April 1996.
Glover served on the ITG Board of Directors from 76-83, 89-90 and 96-99. In 1976, he proposed the industry-sponsored ITG Conference Scholarship Program that has allowed hundreds of students the benefit of seeing and hearing many of the worlds greatest trumpet artists and teachers.
In 1970, Glover founded the Brass Press, a company devoted to publishing brass music and books. Many of the more than 160 Brass Press editions have become international standards in the brass repertoire. Brass Press publications have been recorded by the worlds leading brass players. Glovers Brass Research Series includes historical reprints, complete translations, bibliographies, and contemporary texts.
In 1999, the Brass Press was purchased by Jean-Pierre Mathez of Vuarmarens, Switzerland, and it is now an integral part of the Editions BIM catalog. Since 1991, Glover has worked as a proposal consultant for Fortune 100 companies, such as Honeywell, Raytheon, General Dynamics, Lockheed Martin and Litton Industries where he helps clients win business.
