18 sponsors awarded 20 conference scholarships for the 2000 International Trumpet Guild Conference. Each scholarship consisted of a $200 award, a certificate, and a waiver of conference fees.
There were four levels of scholarship awards: students under 18, students age 18 to 22, students 22 to 24, and a jazz scholarship division for ages 14 to 24. Each entrant was required to prepare an application tape including an etude and a solo with live accompaniment. The required pieces are listed each year in the competition section of the ITG web site.
While there is a certain level of musicianship and achievement expected from scholarship winners, this award is within the reach of more musicians than normally apply. Each eligible member of ITG should seriously consider preparing and entering the scholarship competition for the 2001 conference. The process of applying is of immense value to the student who is preparing for a career in music. Future members should also be encouraged that an increased number of scholarships become available each year as more sponsors realize the value of the program.
