Pasi Pirinen started learning the trumpet in his hometown of Tornio in
Finland. He entered the junior department of the Sibelius Academy in
Helsinki in 1984 and then went on to study with John Miller and Paul
Cosh at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama in London. Mr. Pirinen
received his diploma in 1992 and then continued his studies with Antoine
Curé in Paris, Michael Sachs and Charles Schlueter in USA.
Mr. Pirinen’s first orchestral appointments were as principal trumpet with
the Orchestra of San Luts and the Córdoba Symphony Orchestra from
1992-94. He then freelanced in London before being appointed to his
current position as principal trumpet with the Finnish Radio Symphony
Orchestra in Helsinki in 1995. As a soloist, Mr. Pirinen has appeared
with several orchestras including the Helsinki Philharmonic, the Finnish
Radio Symphony and Prague Radio Symphony Orchestras. He has also
given the first performance of the Trumpet Concerto by Harri Wessmann
and in 1998, won 1st Prize in the Ellsworth Smith Solo Trumpet Competition held by the ITG in
Columbus, Ohio, USA. In 1999, Mr. Pirinen was named “Brass Player of the Year” at the Lieksa Brass
Festival in Finland.
