The career of Peter Levinson in the entertainment business has involved
stints as an agent, freelance writer, personal manager, and primarily
as a publicist. In an industry where typecasting is the rule of thumb,
his firm, Peter Levinson Communications, Inc. (PLC), has achieved significant
results with various musical artists and a variety of musical
events, while also representing personalities, books, film and television
projects.
The company had been firmly established in New York when, in June
1989, Peter Levinson moved to Los Angeles and PLC became the only
bi-coastal public relations company that specialized in representing jazz
personalities and companies. For many years, his company set the stan-dard
for publicity campaigns on behalf of its jazz clients.
In 1999, during which PLC marked its 27th year, Peter fulfilled a long-time
dream with the publication of Trumpet Blues - the Life of Harry James by Oxford University Press,
which has been both an artistic and financial success. Currently, Levinson is working on a biography of
Nelson Riddle for publication by Billboard Books in the fall of 2001. He continues to divide his time
between writing this biography and handling publicity for a select group of clients.
