Since joining the Metropolitan Opera in the lead trumpet chair in 1973,
Mark Gould has led an active and varied musical life. He is much
sought after as a soloist and as a teacher and, since 1982, has main-tained
a full teaching schedule with both trumpet students and Orchestral
Repertory courses on the faculty of the Juilliard School of Music. As guest
conductor and trumpet soloist, Mr. Gould has appeared with the Seattle
Symphony, the San Diego Symphony, the Buffalo Philharmonic, and the
Hartford Symphony Orchestras, as well as at festivals such as the Vermont
Mozart Festival, the Waterloo Music Festival, the Madeira Bach Festival and
the Caramoor Festival.
Mr. Gould travels regularly to Europe and the Pacific Rim countries to perform and present clinics and
master classes. As a Yamaha Artist his activities include yearly visits to Japan for concerts, clinics and
master classes. He also appears regularly at festivals in Spain and Portugal adding to his appreciation of
Iberian music and customs.
Mr. Gould is director of the New York Trumpet Ensemble and the Main Street Band, an ensemble dedi-cated
to presenting American wind band masterpieces.
